About
Vanessa Vandy is an award-winning DOP and director from New Zealand and Finland.
As a DOP, she has worked with a number of esteemed directors, including Viivi Huuska, Klaus Härö, Taito Kawata, Aku Louhimies, Riina Sipovaara, Sam Stutchbury, Sandra Itäinen, Mari Mantela, Matti Kihlström, Ville Salminen and Finn Andersson. In 2023, her film this is My Love for You got awarded a Silver in the commercial category of the New Zealand Cinematography Awards. Her film My Own Eyes was during the same year also selected as a Musicbed Awards Finalist and as a Filmsupply Film selection.
Her narrative directorial debut, the short film Farewell, was a finalist at the One Screen Film Festival in 2017 and was also officially selected at the LA Shorts International Film Festival and Bermuda International Film Festival. Farewell earned Vanessa a directorial nomination at the 2018 1,4 Awards in London. Additionally, two of Vanessa's videos received high scores on Shiny Critiques, earning her a spot on their #ShinyList of promising, diverse directors worldwide. In 2018, Vanessa was also added to Free the Work's catalog of promising female directors.
Before pursuing her career in film, Vanessa was an elite pole vaulter, competing in the Beijing Olympics for Finland in 2008.
